Unilag Offers 125 First Class Graduates Automatic Employment

Propelled by the need to sustain excellence in the university system, the University of Lagos has taken a bold step in that direction by offering automatic employment to 125 graduating students who bagged first class degrees from different programmes offered by the institution.


The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Ade Bello, who made this known during the second phase of the schools’ 2013/2014 convocation ceremony that took place yesterday, said the governing council,  in its support for excellence in the university, approved that two best graduating students with CGPA not less than 4.00 in each programmes be automatically employed as graduate assistants.

A four month old baby boy has been rescued from the rubble of the Nepal earthquake after being buried under a collapsed building for 22 hours.



According to Images published by local newspaper, Katmandu Today, the baby named Sonit Awal, was buried deep under rubble and bricks.Rescuers were called after the boy’s family house in the town of Bhaktapur on Saturday. They tried until midnight to pull him from the rubble without success, the newspaper said

OAU to resume on May 17, 2015

The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, Osun State, have announced new dates for the commencement of the 2014/2015 academic session for its new students and the returning undergraduates.



The Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement on Wednesday, said that the new students would resume on May 17 while the returning undergraduates would resume on May 31.

FG demands corpses of 4 Nigerians executed in Indonesia

The Federal Government has condemned the execution of four Nigerians by Indonesian authorities over drug-related offences, demanding the repatriation of the corpses of the executed persons for them to be given a decent burial in their various communities.



According to a statement on yesterday night from the Public Communications Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja,the Federal government called the executions a dissapointement, despite pleas for clemency by president Jonathan .

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has approved the appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).



Alhaji Sanusi, a lawyer, from Kano State takes over from Mallam Habib Abdullahi who has been relieved of his appointment as Managing Director of the NPA.

Two Children Found Dead Inside Deeper Freezer In Delta State

Confusion and sadness reigned in Owa Alero, Ika North-east local government area of Delta State, last Thursday, when the family of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Oseni discovered the corpses of two of their children, David Oseni, 6, and Shedrack, 4, inside their parents’ deep-freezer, purportedly used for their ‘iced block’ business.



According to reports, the children were found frozen, definitely had been there for some time. All efforts to revive them proved abortive, as they were confirmed dead from hypothermia, Leadership reports. The Osenis, natives of Etsako, Edo State, have been living in Owa Alero, the ancestral home of the mother.

Lagos State Government Gives Over 100 Cars to Traditional Rulers

The Lagos State Government on Monday said it had procured no fewer than 100 vehicles for the use of traditional rulers and chiefs across the state. Ademorin Kuye, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, made the disclosure at the 2015 Ministerial Press Briefing in Ikeja.

 

He said the vehicles, which had since been presented to the traditional rulers, were to ease the movement of the beneficiaries in the discharge of their duties. Kuye said the government was committed to the welfare of Obas in the state, and would continue to take steps to demonstrate it.
