Cristiano Ronaldo scored in each half, as Real Madrid beat fellow La Liga side, Sevilla, to win the UEFA Super Cup.
The
game, played at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, marked
competitive debuts for Madrid new boys Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez,
who both started alongside Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in
attack.
Ronaldo saw an early chance blocked by Sevilla’s defence,
before he finally got on the end of a superb Bale cross in the 30th
minute, to give Carlo Ancelotti’s men the lead.
The
Portuguese forward doubled his tally four minutes after the break, with
a fine finish from his left foot. Benzema missed an opportunity to make
it 3-0, while Ronaldo could also not complete his hat-trick, as Madrid
won their first piece of silverware of the new season.
