South African sportsman Oscar Pistorius yesterday was admitted to
a psychiatric hospital to start his court ordered 30-days of tests.
The
paralympic runner was driven to the Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital,
west of Pretoria with tight security as media men and fans alike
surrounded the hospital.
His was not joined by his friends or close family who had always supported him in court.
The
Judge Thokozile Masipa last week told Oscar that he will have to report
to the Psych hospital every work day from morning to 1400 GMT from May
26, he was ordered to attend the hospital after it was revealed that he
suffers from generalised anxiety disorder.
The judge wants
Pistorius to be tested to see “whether he was capable of appreciating
the wrongfulness of his act or acting in accordance with appreciation of
the wrongfulness of his act”.
The case has been adjourned till the end of his medical and mental evaluation is completed.
Pistorius
is accused of shooting and killing his 29 year-old model girlfriend
Reeva Steenkamp at his home after they had an argument.
