Three persons were on yesterday night shot in Kimba community, in Gur ward of Biu Local Government Area of Borno state, during an attack carried out by members of the radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

A resident identified as Umar Kimba, said the gunmen stormed the village on motorcycles and started firing sporadically.

He said that the assailants burnt down almost half of the town, adding that the people that sustained gunshot wounds are currently being treated at Biu General hospital.
Kimba while speaking to newsmen in Maiduguri, revealed that all the resident of the village have fled to seek refuge in Sabon Gari, Mandara Girau and Biu following the attack.

According to him, while the assailants were shooting, they were also calling on the village youths to come and join jihad against the government of infidel and corrupt politicians.

"When nobody went out to meet them they started burning the houses and those who hide in their houses started coming out and running to safe heaven, but the attackers fire at the people. I left Sabon Gari this morning but we have taken the wounded to hospital in Biu before I left" he said.
Kimba disclosed that no security operatives came to their rescue even when there was a military formation around the area, and questioned how the insurgents managed to bypass the military formations to sack the town.

"They did not touch the house of the village head and security operative came only when they have burnt everything and chase everybody out of the village" Kimba said.
Boko Haram which has its strong hold in the northeastern part of the country, Cameroon and Niger, has carried out several attacks and bombings which have claimed thousands of innocent souls in their quest to Islamise the country and put an end to what they described as westernisation.

The sect on April 14, abducted over 234 female students from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State. They were also responsible for Tuesday’s twin bomb blast in Jos, the capital of Plateau State where over 200 lives were lost. The militants two days ago killed about 29 people in Alagarno village in the same state.

The sect’s menace has however, attracted the attention of international communities like France, U.S, China, Israel among others, whom have all volunteered to help the Nigerian Government in flushing them out as well as rescuing the kidnapped school girls.
