Thursday. The movie is the first of a planned trilogy based on the
worldwide mega-hit. Here are the key players and facts about the movie.

#10 When is the movie out?
The movie arrives in theaters Valentine’s Day 2015. It’s a long way
away, but you can expect the campaign for the film will be fierce. The
studio has already set up a fake “Grey Enterprises Holdings” website.
The merchandising for the film will probably be huge, so get ready to
see all sorts of fun tie-in objects.

Jamie Dornan was Sheriff Graham. Christian Grey will be played by
Jamie Dornan, an Irish actor first became known to American audiences as
Sheriff Graham, aka The Huntsman, on the ABC fairy tale show Once Upon a
Time. He went on to star on the Irish television show The Fall.

Dakota Johnson is the Daughter of Famous Parents. If you look closely
(REALLY closely) you’ll see that Dakota Johnson is the offspring of
Miami Vice’s Don Johnson and former wife Melanie Griffith. Johnson, who
plays co-lead Anastasia Steele, said she wouldn’t want her parents to
see the film, commenting that “I mean, if it were them doing a movie I
wouldn’t want to see that.”

Sam Taylor-Wood is directing. She was chosen over directors like Gus
Van Sant Steven Soderberg and Angelina Jolie. She is also a
photographer. Her directorial debut was 2009′s Nowhere Boy, about the
childhood of John Lennon.

Sorry, this is a Robsten-free zone. E.L. James wrote the trilogy as a
fanfiction based loosely on the Twilight series. However, James said
that she never wanted Twilight stars Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart
to be in the film, admitting that would be pretty weird. This is
probably because she was imagining them in their underwear while writing
the movie.

Everyone is debating how racy the sex scenes will be, with book fans
already calling for blood if each scene is not faithfully adapted.
However for now details are sparse, and the risque scenes are being
filmed with a skeleton crew of only 12 people to keep the details quiet.
The trailer is PG-13 and only features flashes of the hot scenes
between Christian and Anastasia.

Beyonce made a special version of her hit Crazy in Love just for the
film. The slow jams version of the song was featured in the film’s
trailer, which premiered on the NBC Today Show and online today for the
first time. Queen Bey posted about the trailer earlier in the week,

Fifty Shades of Grey novels and for the first time I can take some

get to the juicy part.” She’s not alone, as the books have sold more
than 100 million copies worldwide, many to housewives.

One such author who has words about the series is J.K. Rowling. The
Harry Potter author has never read 50 Shades and never will. She refuses
to read the book and compared it to porn, setting off a war of sorts
with E.L. James.
#1 Who or what influenced E.L. James?
The author was influenced by the teen novel series Twilight, but also
found her inspiration in the band The Black Eyed Peas. E.L. James wrote
part of the book to songs by the Black Eyed Peas which got her in the
mood for scandalous scenes. (That was the first and last time anyone
ever wrote that about the Peas). There are no plans to have the Peas
featured on the soundtrack. How’s that for random?
