#10 The X-Scream
High above Las Vegas, you’ll find this ride that can scare you to
death. The Stratsophere Tower X-Scream is like a teeter totter taken to
new heights. At 866 feet high from the ground, riders are plummeted 27
feet away from the edge of hotel, leaving you screaming for your life.
It’s the third highest ride in the world, and features the car moving
back and forward.
#9 Banshee
At Mason, Ohio’s theme park, Kings Island, many have been taken for a
screaming good time on the Banshee. It’s the world’s longest inverted
roller coaster, and features over 4,000 feet of track. It’s only 167
feet high, but it’s a thrill ride for sure, going 68 miles per hour.
You’ll travel several loop types on this monster, including a pretzel
loop, a zero-g barrel roll, and more.
#8 Kingda Ka
Six Flags Great Adventure has always featured great thrill rides, and
Kingda Ka is definitely a thrill. Located in Jackson, New Jersey,
Kingda Ka is the world’s tallest roller coaster and second fastest. You
go 128 miles per hour in about 3.5 seconds. How’s that for fast?
#7 Goliath
It’s made of wood, but don’t let that stop you from testing your
limits on Goliath. At Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois,
Goliath is an unsuspecting scare machine. It has the longest and
steepest drop of any wooden roller coaster in the world, plus is the
fastest. If that doesn’t get you excited, the ride also features a
plunge of 180 feet into an underground tunnel.
#6 X2
Six Flags Magic Mountain in California had a ride named X that was
quite popular but engineers wanted to make it even more extreme. They
closed the ride in 2007, and developed the X2. The design is a
prototype, and features an amazing “4D” experience for riders. The seats
can rotate forwards and backwards 360 degrees, plus the redesign
brought new paint, enhanced visual and audio. You may find yourself
waiting up to two or more hours for a chance on this ride.
#5 Skyscreamer
The recently opened Skyscreamer at Six Flags New England is the
tallest swing ride in the world. You’ll be dangling 400 feet above from
the ground, then spun around nearly 40 miles per hour. Tie your shoes on
tight, or else you’ll lose them. Riders sit side by side and fly at a
60 degree. Sounds fun, right?
#4 Zumanjaro Drop of Doom
Six Flags keeps breaking records. Now they have the tallest drop ride
in the world with Zumanjaro. You can ride at the company’s Great
Adventure and Safari park in Jackson, New Jersey. Be prepared though,
because you’ll plummet to the ground at 90 miles per hour after going up
415 feet.
#3 Twilight Tower of Terror
Sure it’s at Disney, but the Tower of Terror is frighting. You can
find versions of the ride at Disney World, California Adventure,
DisneySea, and Disneyland Paris. The freefall ride features a trip up a
rickey elevator in a spooky “haunted” building straight out of the
Twilight Zone. The drop isn’t your standard drop, but rather the ride is
actually jerked downward causing some riders to rise up from their
seat, hence the need for seat belts. All these drops happen with added
effects of flickering lights, creepy bellhops and more.
#2 Giant Canyon Swing
A swing sounds harmless enough, but when it’s 1300 feet above the
Colorado River, it’s anything but. The views are amazing but terrifying
as you swing out up to 50 miles per hour. Denver’s Glenwood Caverns
Adventure Park features this thrill ride which swings you back and forth
like a pendulum, so you’ll probably want to avoid eating before this
ride.
#1 Bizarro
Six Flags New England asks riders “What if Superman had powers that
he used for evil?” This ride influenced by a “bizarro” version of DC
Comics’ Superman features plenty of scare. It features a 221 feet drop
into an underground tunnel, and a twisted layout of more than 5,400 of
track. The ups and downs will get your stomach dropping for sure, and
then you’ll be shot through a tunnel of white mist at 77 miles per hour.
