Armed robbers tell Ogun residents saying 'We’re coming for cash'

Residents of Elerinko Estate in Ijoko-Ota in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State say they have been living in fear since suspected robbers wrote the community last Saturday, intimating them of an impending attack.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye

Our correspondent gathered that the suspected robbers pasted letters of their impending on buildings, electric poles and other points in the estate.

They advised the residents to make cash available in their own interest, saying they would invade the community anytime soon. The residents were also warned not to treat the demand as an empty one.
It was learnt that the letters were posted between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Some of the residents, who pleaded anonymity for security reasons, told our correspondent that the letters had pictures of a skull and bones.

One of them said, “When we woke up on Saturday, we saw the letters pasted all over the estate asking us to prepare for them, that they are coming.

“The robbers also advised us to withdraw cash from banks to keep at home. They said we had enjoyed peace and no security could stop them.

“Presently, there is panic in this area and many people are planning to move out of the estate. The police should help us.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the command was aware of the threat. He added that the commissioner of police has ordered the Area Commander, Titilayo Kayode, to do the needful.

He said, “We have put in place adequate security in the area. I got the information, but I have yet to see the letter.

“The CP has acted on it. The Divisional Police Officer,Ota, Mr. Gabriel Idibie, a Chief Superintendent of Police, and his men have been patrolling the area.”
